Overlanding with the Family in Mind

Overlanding With Kids

We are obsessed with the “Overlanding” concept and truly believe the investment in a multi-purpose vehicle has more benefits than one would initially believe.

My wife and I have always been active outdoors, whether hiking, kayaking, camping or snowboarding.  Since having children, our outdoor activities took a quick, inward stall while we got used to this whole, parenthood “thing.”  After catching our breaths, we have finally been able to ease back into some of our favorite excursions.

As simple as some of our current explorations may seem in comparison to our earlier days of hiking Mt. Washington’s Knife edge or carving down Sugarloaf’s White Nitro, finding the correct vehicle to get us there was more challenging than you would think.  No matter what, we need four full doors to get the kids in and out without breaking our backs.  Secondly, we have discovered that a pickup bed is much more utilitarian than the rear cargo space a SUV or wagon offers.

For us, the Second Generation, Long Bed, Double Cab Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport was a great solution.  It offers ample cab space for the driver and passenger as well as a full, six-foot bed, which is key.  The rear seats are a bit tighter, but those seats will mainly be for our young children.  This, of course, is just one solution of many and one family’s preference.  So, tell us what you’re looking for; we’d love to help you find your next overland vehicle.
