1974 Dodge Travco 270 Limited Edition

Travel Travco Style

Here is a turn-key, 1973 Dodge Travco 270 Limited Edition.  This vintage, fiberglass body on chassis motorhome stretches just over 27 feet long making it big enough for a family adventure while still easy to navigate on both highways and backroads.

This particular Travco is fitted the Chrysler’s 440 V8 and mated to the Chrysler Torqueflite 727 Transmission with dash-mounted gear selector.  This variant of the 440 V8 was specifically refined from factory to be able to push such a large vehicle and housed improved valves, stress-relieved casting and forged crankshaft.  This Travco can easily achieve and maintain speeds of 70-75 mph without issue.

The exterior of this Travco is in nice condition with normal wear and tear including flaking paint, scratches and shallow dings.  The roof has been maintained and the seams are still sealed. The crank operated roof window did have a leak, but the wood was repaired although the inner on the interior could be buttoned up in a nicer fashion.  There are remnants of the previous owner’s taste with random, amusing emblems, stickers and two chrome trucker girls fastened to the front. Overall, the two-tone paint shows well for the age with nothing out of the ordinary needing immediate attention.

The interior maintains all factory installed furniture, appliances and cabinets.  Plumbing and electrical are all intact and in working order including the Onan generator housed in the rear of the Travco.  The flooring appears to have been replaced with more durable, but bland coverings although they have held up well. The walls have also been recovered as seen in the photos.  The interior shows well as it sits and is fully functional. The ceiling does have spots of sag, but no areas of moisture, currently.

This Travco accommodates up to four adults comfortably with plenty of room for a family with smaller children.  The bedding and captains chairs fold, swivel and operate flawlessly. All appliances work as they should including the refrigerator, freezer, microwave and gas range.

Mechanically, this Travco is in good working order.  The 440 V8 starts up after one pump of the gas pedal.  The 727 transmission engages in all gears and there are no signs if slippage or mis-shifts.  The oil pressure is right where it should be and the engine remains at a proper temperature with no overheating issues.  The brakes work well and new 12-Ply Cooper radials were fitted only 1000 miles ago.

This 1973 Dodge Travco 270 is ready to use as it sits and offers its new owner a very unique way to travel, explore and camp.
